About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Lead and coordinate all technical aspects of AC power substation projects
- Develop substation designs from scoping through detailed design
- Produce power single-line drawings, plan and elevation drawings, general substation arrangements and layouts
- Develop layouts and details for high-voltage bus, cable, equipment, conduit, wiring, grounding, and control buildings
- Provide oversight and reviews of proposal deliverables
- Perform conceptual engineering and prepare proposal documentation, including BOMs
- Write and review high-voltage technical specifications
- Support sourcing for vendor quotations and evaluate vendor quotations
- Develop clarifications, exceptions, and technical responses
- Serve as the single point of contact for technical issues for customers and project managers
- Coordinate with sourcing and project teams on technical matters, specifications, cost, and schedules
- Write high-voltage equipment specifications and contractor work scopes
- Interface with customers and project team members through final commissioning
- Lead the team toward high-quality products delivered on time and on or under budget
- Perform field testing, commissioning, and troubleshooting as needed
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering
- Minimum of 3 years' experience in industrial or utility HV & EHV substation design, or MSEE (power)
- Ability and willingness to travel up to 20% domestically and internationally
- Legally authorized to work in the United States
- Working knowledge of battery sizing and DC system component selection
- Knowledge of power transformer and circuit breaker selection
- Knowledge of circuit protection and control/power cable and bus selection and rating
- Knowledge of bus, fittings, insulator, and arrester selection
- Knowledge of ground grid design and lightning protection
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills
- Fluent in English
- Ability to lead a team and be accountable for team results
- Must be able and willing to obtain a Professional Engineering license in the U.S.; U.S. Professional Engineering registration strongly desired
- Minimum of 3 years' experience in Transmission & Distribution substation engineering for utilities and renewable energy power plants
- Experience as an Electrical Project Engineer in substation applications, including primary outdoor substation design and required calculations
- Knowledge and experience using IEEE and ANSI standards and codes, including NEC and NESC
- Ability to engineer design packages without clear customer specifications
- Field-testing and commissioning experience with safe work habits
- Demonstrated electrical and mechanical troubleshooting capability
- Commercial experience such as project management
- Excellent computer skills, including programming and design automation
- Familiarity with AutoCAD/MicroStation strongly desired
