About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Test and commission HV and LV substation equipment to meet project timelines and budget requirements
  • Manage technical integrity of primary and secondary equipment during construction and operational phases
  • Ensure site safety culture, including management of risk assessments and method statements
  • Lead on-site commissioning teams and provide technical guidance, training, and mentorship
  • Create technical documentation, including test records, reports, and non-conformance tracking
  • Collaborate with project stakeholders to resolve technical queries and manage site-based commissioning resources
  • Perform fault finding on protection schemes and integrate third-party IEDs

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Substantive experience in testing and commissioning HV power system equipment within generation, transmission, or distribution environments
  • Ability to manage and troubleshoot complex protection schemes and substation automation systems
  • Understanding of IEC61850, Modbus, and IEC 104 communication protocols
  • Expertise using Omicron, Sverker, or Megger test equipment
  • Ability to travel extensively to projects and field assignments across the UK and globally
  • Willingness to work holidays, weekends, and overtime as required
  • Ability to spend considerable time away from home for training and field assignments
  • Formal university Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent is nice to have, but not required
