About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Pitch and develop original, social-first true crime content and recurring franchises
- Review Sinclair markets, outside news, broadcasts, digital stories, raw footage, court coverage and social media for story opportunities
- Monitor breaking crime events, press conferences, hearings, trials, livestreams and other developments
- Stay current on true crime documentaries, series, podcasts, books, news and social content
- Lead reviews and coverage of true crime streaming content
- Serve as on-camera talent for breaking true crime news and major developments
- Support programming as backup on-camera talent for hosts and franchises
- Research and report stories using court documents, PACER, FOIA requests, archival materials, media sources and direct outreach
- Pursue leads, verify facts and gather required production assets
- Manage third-party permissions and clearances
- Communicate reporting needs, asset limitations, clearance issues, production delays and deadline risks
- Pitch, script, shoot, present and edit original video content for YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok and other platforms
- Produce mid-form narrative, creator-led, quick-turn, short-form and daily news content
- Create platform-specific videos, social graphics, thumbnails and promotional assets following brand guidelines
- Own assigned content from approval through completion and prepare publishing elements
- Review social and digital performance metrics to improve story selection, hooks, formats, pacing, presentation and performance
- Refine recurring content buckets and franchises using audience insights
- Review assigned markets and sources each morning
- Submit 3–5 developed story pitches by 9:30 a.m. EST each day
- Produce 3–5 quick-turn or short-form videos and 2 mid-form narrative videos weekly, with a minimum of 5 videos per week
- Maintain an active pipeline of original ideas
- Meet deadlines and proactively identify additional stories and future productions
- Perform other job-related duties assigned by the manager
Requirements
What you’ll need- Strong journalism background
- Expertise in video production
- Expertise in graphic design
- Innate ability to connect with true crime audiences across platforms
- Ability to pitch, research, script, shoot, present and edit original video content
- Experience creating platform-specific videos, social graphics, thumbnails and promotional assets
- Ability to research using public records and reporting tools, including court documents, PACER and FOIA requests
- Ability to verify facts and gather video, documents, images, interviews, social media posts and other assets
- Ability to manage permissions and clearances for third-party content
- Ability to meet editorial and production deadlines
- Ability to safely lift, carry and maneuver equipment or gear weighing up to 25 pounds
- Willingness/ability to travel approximately 10–20% for conferences, training, content gathering, breaking news or on-site coverage
- Ability to work generally 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. EST, with occasional after-hours or weekend coverage
- Overtime must be approved in advance by a manager
