About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Contribute actively to the PHP 7.x → 8.4 migration — introducing typed properties, union types, named arguments, enums, and fibers incrementally and sustainably alongside the migration lead
Build and maintain backend services and RESTful APIs with a focus on clarity, testability, and production reliability
Write code that survives scrutiny — including code produced with AI assistance — reviewing AI output with the same rigour applied to any other diff
Work with MySQL for schema design, indexing, and query optimisation
Participate in code reviews, contribute to engineering standards, and flag technical debt with pragmatic, actionable proposals
Collaborate with product, QA, DevOps, and design teams across India, Poland, and the Netherlands
Contribute to technical discussions and help shape how the team works, not just what it builds

Requirements

What you’ll need

3–5 years of professional backend development experience
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
Hands-on experience with PHP 8.x features and solid working knowledge of PHP 7.x
Experience with at least one major PHP framework: Laravel, Symfony, or equivalent
Experience designing and building RESTful APIs and integrating with third-party services
Solid working knowledge of MySQL — schema design, indexing, and query optimisation
Experience with Git, code reviews, and CI/CD pipelines
Practical, daily use of AI-assisted development tools such as Cursor, GitHub Copilot, or Claude Code — with the ability to review AI-generated output critically and articulate where each tool excels and where it falls short
Confidence navigating, reading, and improving a large established codebase without a complete map
