Backend Engineer

• Design, build, and maintain backend services using Node.js + Nest.js (primary), and support services in Express and Python where needed.
• Build and maintain frontend applications in React + Next.js.
• Work with AWS cloud services (RDS, ECS, CloudWatch, version control) to deploy and monitor applications.
• Collaborate closely with product and design to deliver new features end-to-end.
• Ensure code quality, testing, and best practices across multiple backends.
• Troubleshoot performance bottlenecks, optimize services, and improve system scalability.
• Contribute to architectural decisions as the company scales its engineering.

DevOps Engineer

• Own and evolve our AWS infra (ECS/Fargate, RDS/Postgres, S3, IAM, VPC)
• Maintain and improve CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions) and Infra-as-Code (Terraform)
• Set up alerting, log aggregation, and performance dashboards (CloudWatch, Datadog, or OpenTelemetry)
• Implement secure-by-default practices; support SOC 2 / HIPAA readiness
• Write Python/Bash scripts for backups, monitoring, deployment hooks, etc.
• Assist with Postgres tuning, access control, and migrations
• Lay groundwork for container orchestration (EKS/Kubernetes) if/when we scale beyond ECS

3D Artist

• Create particle-based effects such as sparks, trails, and other gameplay visual flourishes.
• Design and implement UI-focused VFX (button interactions, visual feedback, etc.).
• Optimize effects for performance in a mobile 3D environment using frameworks like Three.js.
• Collaborate with the 3D Artist and engineering team to maintain a cohesive visual style.
• Deliver high-quality, reusable VFX assets that integrate seamlessly into the app.

VFX Artist

• Bat Around™ is seeking an experienced 3D Artist to create stylized 3D assets for our mobile app.
• This is a short-term contract opportunity with a clear deliverable goal: completing all required 3D models and visual effects by the end of February.
• You’ll play a key role in shaping the look and feel of the game’s environment while ensuring assets are optimized for mobile performance.
• Responsibilities
• Design and create stylized 3D models for in-game assets such as stadiums, baseballs, and other props.
• Define and execute the visual style for 3D elements within the app.
• Collaborate with the engineering team to ensure assets are optimized for performance in a mobile environment.
• (Optional, based on skillset) Develop particle effects and additional visual flourishes to enhance gameplay.

Engineer

• Lead efforts in ensuring cloud and tooling spend stays lean, optimized, and clearly understood across the organization, redesigning cost-effectiveness structures using AI-driven strategies, building dashboards, systems, and processes.
• Thrive at the intersection of technology, data, and people, building solutions that save money without slowing innovation.
• Track and analyze spend across AWS, Azure, GCP, Snowflake, FiveTran, DBT, Datadog, Splunk, Grafana, and other SaaS platforms.
• Build dashboards in Power BI, Qlik, or similar tools to visualize spend and usage patterns.
• Apply AI/ML techniques for anomaly detection, forecasting, and automated insights.
• Integrate cost management data via APIs (AWS Cost Explorer, Datadog, Kubernetes cost APIs, etc.) for real-time monitoring.
• Compare actual spend vs. budgeted forecasts and escalate when thresholds are exceeded.
• Support root cause analysis using usage data and AI-driven insights.
• Design automated processes for forecast expansion or budget increase requests.
• Lead weekly cost usage reviews with engineering, DevOps, and product leads.
• Drive a proactive culture of cost awareness and accountability.
• Partner with teams to optimize data workflows and observability configurations without sacrificing performance.
• Define and enforce tagging and labeling strategies to ensure accurate cost attribution.
• Collaborate with DevOps to enforce compliance and traceability.
• Influence vendor negotiations, license optimization, and procurement cycles with AI-informed forecasting.
• Manage incidents related to data ingestion, analytics anomalies, and platform access.
• Coordinate real-time response efforts with Engineering, Product, DevOps, and Operations.
• Ensure uptime and health metrics align with SLAs across data pipelines and services.
