About the role
- Manage and support the day-to-day legal affairs of assigned Medical Device businesses or operating divisions.
- Manage outside counsel supporting designated Medical Device businesses and operating divisions.
- Coordinate and provide strategic legal advice to business partners on commercial contracts, advertising and marketing, competitor interactions, and other matters.
- Draft, review and negotiate complex commercial contracts including customer, distributor, vendor, development, manufacturing, service, clinical trial, and group purchasing agreements.
- Work with internal colleagues and outside counsel to handle a large volume of contracts to mitigate legal risk and support business objectives.
- Advise Division General Counsel and senior business management on legal and regulatory risks affecting Medical Device businesses including healthcare regulatory compliance, anti-kickback statutes, False Claims Act, U.S. government programs and contracting compliance, antitrust laws.
- Keep abreast of legislative and regulatory changes affecting healthcare and relevant regulations.
- Provide training on healthcare regulatory compliance topics as assigned.
- Contribute to Legal Department’s continuous operational improvement and alignment of contracting practices.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Juris Doctor from accredited law school.
- Admitted to practice law and in good standing under the Bar of at least one U.S. state.
- Minimum 10+ years of relevant legal experience with at least 3 years with an in-house corprorate legal department preferred.
- 5+ years recent experience advising medical device, pharmaceutical or life science companies
- Experience with the federal antikickback statue desired
- Solid commercial contract background with extensive drafting and negotiation experience
- Experience in legal matters involving tariffs and other trade compliance issues would be a plus
- Strong work ethic and ability to timely, effectively and autonomously manage multiple complex projects
- Ability to manage junior-level counsel, paralegals, or non-attorney administrative staff
- Ability to use, or quickly acquire skill necessary for using, legal technology platforms and applications such as Microsoft Office and Microsoft Teams.
