Key responsibilities & impact

Build the MCP Server in Python using FastMCP
Implement the connection to SAP ECC using PyRFC and the SAP NetWeaver RFC SDK
Develop functions that expose SAP BAPIs as MCP tools (e.g., purchase order queries, price history, stock movements)
Implement error handling and structured formatting of return data
Configure connection security — environment variables, HTTPS, authentication
Perform connection testing and validation using real SAP environment data
Collaborate with Friend's SAP functional specialist to define which data to expose

Requirements

What you’ll need

Strong experience with Python (3.10+)
Experience in API development and system integrations
Knowledge of communication protocols (REST, RPC) — experience with RFC is a plus but not required
Familiarity with the Model Context Protocol (MCP) concept or willingness to learn quickly — reference material will be provided
Good communication — the project involves direct alignment with Friend's leadership and validation with an SAP specialist
Prior experience with SAP systems, even if basic
Experience with FastMCP, PyRFC, or similar libraries
Experience with applied AI projects — agents, LLMs, automation
Availability for recurring projects
