About the role
- Directing and coordinating utility operations under the direction of the Plant Manager, Sr. Production Manager, or other designated plant leadership
- Supporting production by ensuring reliable operation of utility systems, equipment, and facility infrastructure while meeting safety, quality, environmental, and cost objectives
- Overseeing utility employees and contractors involved in boiler operations, buildings and grounds upkeep, compressed air systems, water systems, wastewater systems, and other plant utility functions
- Maintaining compliance with company policies, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), food safety requirements, environmental standards, and applicable federal, state, and local regulations
- Supervising utility employees to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operation of plant utility systems
- Overseeing utility systems including boilers, compressed air, waste water system, water systems, HVAC, and related facility infrastructure
- Monitoring utility performance to ensure uninterrupted support of plant production operations
- Coordinating utility operations during processing season and supporting maintenance activities during the off-season
- Assisting with planning and execution of utility-related capital projects, equipment upgrades, and process improvements
- Supporting preventative maintenance activities and ensuring utility equipment is maintained in proper working conditions
- Assisting in ordering parts, materials, and supplies needed for utility operations and maintenance
- Coordinating contractors and outside service providers as needed to support plant utility systems
- Ensuring utility-related records, logs, inspections, and operating reports are completed accurately and on time
- Participating in troubleshooting equipment failures, system downtime, and emergency response situations
- Managing, supervising, coaching, training, and developing utility hourly and salaried employees
- Coordinating employee scheduling, staffing, overtime, and labor utilization within the department
- Promoting effective employee relations to improve motivation, teamwork, productivity, and retention
- Ensuring employees are properly trained in utility system operations, safety requirements, and plant procedures
- Participating in employee performance management, discipline, coaching, and development activities
- Conducting safety meetings, department meetings, and shift communications
- Promoting continuous improvement and lean manufacturing principles throughout the department
- Ensuring compliance with all Del Monte safety policies, GMPs, environmental requirements, and food safety standards
- Enforcing compliance with OSHA, EPA, PSM, boiler, wastewater, and other environmental or regulatory requirements
- Promoting and driving safe operation of utility systems, plant equipment, powered industrial equipment, and confined space activities as applicable
- Managing a culture of safety through training, coaching, accountability, and employee involvement
- Participating in audits, inspections, and corrective action activities related to safety, environmental, and utility systems
- Supporting, facilitating, and assisting with implementation of Del Monte Production Systems (DMPS) and lean manufacturing initiatives
- Identifying opportunities to improve productivity, reduce waste, improve safety, and lower operating costs.
Requirements
- 4-year degree, preferably in Agriculture or Business with 3-5 years’ experience OR combination of education and experience
- Previous supervisory or leadership experience preferred
- Knowledge of industrial utility systems including boilers, refrigeration, compressed air, HVAC, water systems, wastewater
- Working knowledge of safety programs, environmental requirements, and regulatory compliance
- Knowledge of GMPs, sanitation requirements, and manufacturing processes
- Strong leadership, communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to supervise employees in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
- Ability to multi-task, prioritize work, and remain flexible in changing situations
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products
- Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English effectively
- Ability to work weekends, overtime, shift schedules, and on-call situations as needed
- Equivalent combinations of education, training, certifications, and experience that provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities will be considered.
- Preferred: 3–5 years of manufacturing, utility, maintenance, operations, or industrial experience preferred
- Previous experience in a food manufacturing or food processing environment preferred
- Experience with boiler operations, wastewater systems, and preventative maintenance programs preferred
- Familiarity with environmental compliance, PSM, confined space, lockout/tagout, and permit-required work processes preferred
- Understanding budgeting, cost control, project management, and capital planning concepts
- Experience with lean manufacturing, continuous improvement, and plant operations support
- Strong understanding of employee relations, staffing, and labor utilization
- Experience working with contractors, vendors, and outside service providers preferred
- SAP experience preferred.
