About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Provide and coordinate clinically competent care for assigned patients, including assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation
- Delegate appropriate tasks to direct patient care staff
- Collect and analyze patient data before, during, and after hemodialysis treatment and document it in medical records
- Adjust or modify treatment plans as indicated and notify clinical leadership or physicians as needed
- Assess and document patient and family learning needs and provide education
- Direct and provide safe and effective daily hemodialysis therapy
- Administer prescribed medications and document medical justification and effectiveness
- Initiate or assist with emergency response measures
- Serve as a resource for the health care team and participate in staff training and new-staff orientation
- Ensure correct laboratory collection, processing, and shipping procedures
- Update nursing assessments and plans of care in collaboration with the Interdisciplinary Team
- Ensure patient awareness of transplant and treatment modality options
- Cover shifts in Grand Rapids, Hibbing, and Eveleth
- Complete CAP requirements for advancement
Requirements
What you’ll need- Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing
- Current appropriate state licensure
- Current or successful completion of CPR BLS Certification
- Must meet practice requirements in the state of employment
- Entry level for RNs with less than 2 years of Nephrology Nursing experience
- Chronic/acute hemodialysis experience preferred
- No previous dialysis experience needed; on-the-job training provided
- Must complete all FKC education and training requirements for new employees to supervise staff
- Minimum of 9 months’ experience as an RN required to supervise staff as Team Leader or Nurse in Charge
- Minimum of 3 months’ chronic/acute hemodialysis experience as an RN required to supervise staff as Team Leader or Nurse in Charge
- Ability to provide direct patient care involving heavy lifting, moving patients, and assisting with ambulation
- Ability to stand for prolonged periods and bend over
- Ability to move machines and equipment up to 200 lbs. with assistance
- Ability to lift chemical and water solutions up to 30 lbs. to a height of 5 feet
- Ability to work in a health care environment and handle potential exposure to infectious and contagious diseases/materials
- Ability to travel to training sites or other facilities as required
