About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Provide safe and effective hemodialysis therapy as part of the hemodialysis healthcare team
- Provide patient care under the direct visual supervision of a Registered Nurse or in an adjacent treatment room
- Report and document incidents, complaints, problems, unusual findings, and patient responses to the RN
- Maintain a safe and clean working environment
- Participate in Quality Enhancement Program, Quality Assessment and Performance Improvement, patient satisfaction, and process improvement activities
- Support Total Area Productivity goals
- Set up and prime equipment for renal replacement therapies when documented competency and proficiency are established
- Welcome patients and assess their well-being since their last treatment
- Evaluate vascular access, perform cannulation, and report difficulties or unusual findings
- Obtain and record pre-, intra-, and post-treatment vital signs, weights, and treatment parameters
- Calculate and enter dialysis machine programming for ultrafiltration goals, treatment time, sodium modeling, and ultrafiltration modeling
- Ensure appropriate safety alarms are enabled
- Initiate renal replacement treatments according to prescribed orders
- Collect, label, and deliver specimens to the laboratory
- Evaluate intradialytic problems and provide prescribed or RN-directed interventions
- Monitor patient response to dialysis therapy
- Perform reinfusion, treatment discontinuation, hemostasis, dressing application, and discharge evaluation
- Perform and document interventions and patient responses
- Travel between assigned facilities and community locations; attend meetings as required
Requirements
What you’ll need- High School Diploma required
- 1–2 years of related experience
- Must have 18 months of dialysis experience
- Must have experience in acute settings
- Certified Clinical Hemodialysis Certification (CCHT) certification
- Ability to provide patient care under RN supervision
- Ability to perform vascular access evaluation and cannulation
- Ability to calculate and program ultrafiltration goals, treatment time, sodium modeling, and ultrafiltration modeling
- Ability to record vital signs and dialysis treatment parameters accurately and timely
- Ability to collect, label, and deliver laboratory specimens
- Ability to perform frequent, prolonged standing and bend over
- Ability to lift and move patients and assist with ambulation
- Ability to occasionally assist with moving equipment up to 200 lbs. and lift chemical and water solutions up to 30 lbs. to heights up to 5 feet
- Ability to travel between assigned facilities and community locations
