About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Provide and coordinate clinically competent care, including assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation, for assigned patients
Delegate appropriate tasks to direct patient care staff
Collect and analyze patient data before, during, and after hemodialysis treatment and document it in medical records
Adjust or modify treatment plans as indicated and notify clinical leadership or physicians as needed
Assess, collaborate on, and document patient and family learning needs and provide education
Direct and provide safe, effective hemodialysis therapy in collaboration with patient care staff
Administer prescribed medications and document medical justification and effectiveness
Initiate or assist with emergency response measures
Serve as a health care team resource and participate in staff training and new-staff orientation
Ensure correct laboratory collection, processing, and shipping procedures
Identify expected outcomes and update nursing assessments and care plans with the Interdisciplinary Team
Ensure patient awareness of transplant and treatment modality options
Complete CAP requirements for advancement
Perform other duties assigned by the Supervisor

Requirements

What you’ll need

Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing
Current appropriate state licensure
Current or successful completion of CPR BLS Certification
Must meet practice requirements in the state of employment
Entry level for RNs with less than 2 years of Nephrology Nursing experience
Chronic/acute hemodialysis experience preferred
Must complete CAP requirements to advance
Ability to provide direct patient care involving heavy lifting, moving patients, and assisting with ambulation
Ability to stand for prolonged periods and bend over
Ability to move machines and equipment up to 200 lbs. with assistance
Ability to lift chemical and water solutions up to 30 lbs. as high as 5 feet
Ability to work in a health care environment and potential exposure to infectious and contagious diseases/materials
May require travel to training sites or other facilities
Must complete FKC education and training requirements before assigned oversight of staff
Minimum 9 months of RN experience and 3 months of chronic/acute hemodialysis RN experience required for assigned oversight as Team Leader or Nurse in Charge
