About the role
- Guide career development, performance management, and promotion processes for direct reports
- Partner with VP of Engineering and the Platform Principal Engineer on headcount planning, recruitment, and onboarding
- Oversee team delivery against objectives, ensuring alignment with the product and system roadmap
- Conduct regular 1:1s, provide feedback, and support team members’ growth and well-being
- Foster technical collaboration and decision-making across teams and with other stakeholders
- Serve as a communication bridge, cascading company goals and feedback across levels
- Protect team time, reduce distractions, and advocate for healthy team dynamics and culture
- Monitor and improve team productivity and performance through meaningful metrics
- Collaborate with other engineering leads and people managers to align ways of working
- Contribute technically when needed (0–20% of time), including acting as Team Lead in transitional periods
- Lead and refine development processes, team rituals, and delivery workflows
- Champion team visibility, recognition, and cross-functional collaboration
Requirements
- 4+ years of experience in backend software development, specially using the Python ecosystem
- Experience on embedded systems, firmware or system-level software development is a plus
- 3+ years of people management experience, having led engineering teams of at least 5 to 10 engineers
- Familiarity with software engineering principles, developer experience, and observability for platform reliability
- Background in industries such as IoT, automotive, or industrial systems where firmware and platform integration are critical is a plus
