About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Engineer and automate Firewall/Web Application Firewall capabilities on-premises and in the cloud
  • Lead automation through scripting
  • Implement new applications companywide
  • Support secure perimeter activities across multi-site enterprise cloud and data center environments
  • Collaborate with business customers and respond to daily requests in a timely manner
  • Improve audit evidence gathering and streamline evidence-capture processes
  • Handle queues of business requests
  • Advise the business on current perimeter configurations and upcoming changes
  • Execute assigned tasks to completion
  • Participate in a monthly on-call rotation
  • Assist with troubleshooting firewall tickets
  • Provide documented status updates to management and team members

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Typically 8–10 years of related professional IT experience
  • Extensive expertise implementing and administering firewalls, particularly Palo Alto Networks firewalls and other secure perimeter applications
  • Deep understanding of Palo Alto firewall configurations, policies, and best practices
  • Proficiency in Python, Perl, YAML, and PowerShell
  • Extensive experience with AWS security and CloudFormation Templates (CFT)
  • Familiarity with Ansible and Terraform is a plus
  • Understanding of CI/CD pipelines is advantageous
  • Strong Linux skills
  • Proven networking and troubleshooting experience, focused on Palo Alto Networks products
  • Expertise supporting encryption and/or security appliance devices
  • Ability to prioritize tasks independently without direct management oversight
  • Ability to provide clear, documented status updates to management and team members
  • Advanced problem-solving skills and ability to work effectively under tight deadlines
  • Bachelor’s degree in information technology, engineering, computer science, or a related field
  • Equivalent professional experience accepted as an alternative to the degree; advanced studies/degree preferred
  • Ability to work a monthly on-call rotation
  • Ability to assist with troubleshooting firewall tickets
  • Ability to work non-regular first-shift hours for troubleshooting and on-call
