About the role

  • Do you want to gain experience programming robot arms and applying machine learning models in simulation and on real hardware?
  • Manufacturing processes are the subject of numerous current research efforts in robotics.
  • Transfer of real manufacturing tasks into simulation as Digital Cousins
  • Automated generation of large datasets through augmentation.
  • Training (reinforcement/imitation learning) of large foundational models (vision-language-action) using simulation and real-world data.
  • Transfer of resulting policies from simulation to real robot hardware (Sim2Real transfer).
  • Investigation of discrepancies in system behavior between simulation and reality (Sim2Real gap) based on various system dynamics, sensor noise, contact modeling, and calibration errors.
  • Adaptation of the simulation and implementation of methods to increase the robustness of the Sim2Real transfer.

Requirements

  • You are studying information systems engineering, computer science, electrical engineering, mechatronics, or a comparable field of study
  • You are interested in robotics and ideally have experience with GPU simulators such as NVIDIA Isaac, as well as motion-planning software like MoveIt or cuRobo
  • You are interested in physical applications of machine learning and ideally have basic knowledge of reinforcement/imitation learning and popular frameworks based on PyTorch or JAX
  • You enjoy working independently and have experience in Python, as well as basic knowledge of software development and documentation.
