About the role

  • Manage the technical division, including operational and building services engineering as well as the in-house workshop
  • Ensure continuous operation and proper functioning of building and operational technology
  • Identify maintenance measures and required repairs, prepare specifications of services, and obtain quotations in accordance with public procurement regulations
  • Plan deployment of tradespeople/contractors, coordinate and prioritize work, and perform final acceptance inspections
  • Monitor adherence to maintenance cycles and mandatory inspections, and tender maintenance contracts
  • Prepare, implement and oversee projects, including schedule and cost control
  • Collaborate with institute and administrative management, all specialist departments, authorities, architects and specialist planners, as well as the Fraunhofer headquarters construction department
  • Compile energy consumption data, document energy-saving measures and plan further savings opportunities for regular energy audits
  • Document all work on technical systems and project data in accordance with the established documentation system

Requirements

  • Degree in Building Services Engineering, Facility Management, Process Engineering or a related field; ideally with experience in staff management
  • Experience in maintenance and repair of operational and building technology
  • Strong specialist knowledge in at least one of the following areas: gas supply, indoor air technology and refrigeration, or building automation
  • Basic knowledge of preventive fire protection is required
  • Solid understanding of relevant technical regulations (VDE standards, TRBS, Operational Safety Ordinance - BetrSichV, etc.)
  • Ability to understand technical processes and diagnose faults
  • Ability to work independently, service-oriented and flexibly; strong communication and team skills — including under high workload
  • Constructive and goal-oriented working style
  • Initial experience leading small teams, strong persuasive skills, confident demeanor and good negotiation abilities
  • Excellent German language skills, both written and spoken (C2 level)
  • Basic knowledge of English
  • Suitability for work in cleanrooms
  • Willingness to occasionally perform necessary weekend work
