About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Support patients, families, and staff in developing acceptance of illness and incorporating it into Christian or spiritual development
  • Provide pastoral ministry through visitation, counsel, and staff sacramental support
  • Assist patients with psychosocial, social, spiritual, and emotional needs during illness, injury, and death
  • Assist local religious groups and clergy in caring for sick or injured congregants
  • Collaborate in holistic patient care through interdisciplinary rounds, referrals, meetings, conferences, committees, and education
  • Document patient care information and complete records accurately and timely
  • Provide spiritual and psychological care through active listening, reflection, discussion, and prayer
  • Provide ethical consultation upon referral
  • Respond to crisis intervention calls with spiritual and emotional support
  • Respond to Advanced Directive consultation referrals
  • Make spiritual services available to new patients and families and follow up as appropriate

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor's degree in Theology or related field - Required
  • Ecclesiastical Endorsement - Required
  • Master's Degree - Preferred
  • 1 year of Chaplain experience in a healthcare institution - Preferred
  • National Association of Catholic Chaplains (NACC) Certification - Preferred
  • Familiarity with Ethical and Religious Directives for Catholic Healthcare Services (ERD's) - Preferred
  • Travel is required: Up to 50%
