About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Support the bidding process by developing and preparing project or service cost estimates
- Coordinate overall estimates and proposals with assigned capture teams
- Present periodic and final submittals to regional managers and corporate representatives
- Identify project solutions and estimate resources for simple and complex projects
- Prepare detailed cost estimates using HCSS software and assist with proposal submittal documents
- Assess and communicate project risks based on proposal documents
- Coordinate quantity takeoffs from project plans and documents
- Apply measurement and payment terms to estimate development
- Review drawings and specifications and identify areas requiring clarification
- Apply equipment and labor rates accurately to estimates
- Identify competitive advantages over other bidders
- Obtain competitive quotes for materials and subcontracted services
- Prepare high-level proposal schedules using critical-path scheduling software
- Maintain updated cost-information databases
- Attend pre-bid walks and determine technical project needs based on site restrictions
- Assemble bid files containing estimate-development information
- Interface with clients, engineers, subcontractors, and vendors
- Complete bids, estimates, and related tasks by required deadlines
- Mentor estimating staff and interns
- Perform additional assignments as directed
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Construction Engineering, Construction Management or equivalent experience
- Eight (8+) years of estimating experience in heavy-civil preferred or similar industries
- Scheduling software experience using Primavera or MS Project is required
- Estimating software experience using Bid2Win/B2W, HCSS, or similar is required
- Quantity takeoff software experience with Agtek or AutoCAD
- Project management and analytical thinking skills with strong construction engineering knowledge
- Motivation, safety focus, and commitment to excellence, ethics, and integrity
- Strong organization, time management, and attention to detail
- Ability to meet goals independently
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Outlook, and Excel
- Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills
- Proactive and creative decision-making
- Ability to collaborate with internal and external stakeholders
- Valid Driver’s License and ability to drive on behalf of company business
- Experience estimating projects over $2 million is preferred
- Ability to meet physical demands of site visits, including PPE use and exposure to heavy equipment, chemicals, dust, fumes, uneven terrain, and extreme weather
