About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Support the bidding process by developing and preparing project or service cost estimates
Coordinate overall estimates and proposals with assigned capture teams
Present periodic and final submittals to regional managers and corporate representatives
Identify project solutions and estimate resources for simple and complex projects
Prepare detailed cost estimates using HCSS software and assist with proposal submittal documents
Assess and communicate project risks based on proposal documents
Coordinate quantity takeoffs from project plans and documents
Apply measurement and payment terms to estimate development
Review drawings and specifications and identify areas requiring clarification
Apply equipment and labor rates accurately to estimates
Identify competitive advantages over other bidders
Obtain competitive quotes for materials and subcontracted services
Prepare high-level proposal schedules using critical-path scheduling software
Maintain updated cost-information databases
Attend pre-bid walks and determine technical project needs based on site restrictions
Assemble bid files containing estimate-development information
Interface with clients, engineers, subcontractors, and vendors
Complete bids, estimates, and related tasks by required deadlines
Mentor estimating staff and interns
Perform additional assignments as directed

Requirements

What you’ll need

Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Construction Engineering, Construction Management or equivalent experience
Eight (8+) years of estimating experience in heavy-civil preferred or similar industries
Scheduling software experience using Primavera or MS Project is required
Estimating software experience using Bid2Win/B2W, HCSS, or similar is required
Quantity takeoff software experience with Agtek or AutoCAD
Project management and analytical thinking skills with strong construction engineering knowledge
Motivation, safety focus, and commitment to excellence, ethics, and integrity
Strong organization, time management, and attention to detail
Ability to meet goals independently
Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Outlook, and Excel
Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills
Proactive and creative decision-making
Ability to collaborate with internal and external stakeholders
Valid Driver’s License and ability to drive on behalf of company business
Experience estimating projects over $2 million is preferred
Ability to meet physical demands of site visits, including PPE use and exposure to heavy equipment, chemicals, dust, fumes, uneven terrain, and extreme weather
