About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Conduct capacity planning and forecasting for the OpenShift Virtualization platform across compute, memory, storage, and network resources
- Analyze resource utilization trends and recommend infrastructure scaling, consolidation, or optimization
- Collaborate with application teams and stakeholders on future demand and capacity needs
- Develop and maintain capacity models and reports
- Develop automation solutions for configuration changes, VM management, auditing, remediation, and ticketing-system integration
- Automate operator updates and changes at scale
- Implement Site Reliability Engineering principles to improve platform stability, performance, and efficiency
- Deploy and audit role-based access controls
- Manage namespaces and resource quotas for CPU, disk, and storage
- Implement and maintain end-to-end monitoring, logging, and tracing for the OpenShift Virtualization environment
- Integrate observability with Dynatrace and Prometheus/Grafana
- Explore Event Driven Architecture for real-time monitoring and response
- Identify observability abnormalities and blind spots
- Perform root cause analysis across the global compute environment
- Proactively monitor VM health, resource usage, and performance metrics
- Monitor unusual activity indicating compromise or misconfiguration
- Provide technical consulting to application teams requiring OpenShift Virtualization solutions
- Design, implement, and validate custom or dedicated OSV clusters and VM solutions
- Create and maintain internal documentation and customer-facing Ford docs content
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
- 5+ years of experience in IT infrastructure and VMware
- At least 2+ years focused on Kubernetes and/or OpenShift Virtualization
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code tools such as Ansible, Terraform, or GitOps
- Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and DevOps methodologies
- Proven experience engineering, administering, and automating VMware and OpenShift Virtualization (KubeVirt) in production environments
- Strong understanding of VMware and Kubernetes concepts
- Experience with Linux administration and networking fundamentals
- Proficiency in Bash or Python scripting for automation
- Experience with monitoring tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, and Dynatrace and logging solutions
- Solid understanding of virtualization concepts and technologies
- Ability to troubleshoot complex issues across multiple layers of the stack
- Strong communication and collaboration skills
- Familiarity with software-defined networking and software-defined storage is preferred
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States
