About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Develop new Body on Frame BIW architectures aligned with advanced manufacturing and product cycle plan requirements
- Collaborate with RIC, VO–Manufacturing, Materials Engineering, and Vehicle Program Teams on efficient, feasible BIW solutions
- Maintain knowledge of competitive benchmarks and develop advanced projects to improve Ford’s BoF Body architectures
- Work with Application Engineering teams to optimize designs as systems and provide technical insights before milestones
- Develop and institutionalize BoF BIW design best practices and design rules in FEDE
- Drive continuous improvement in future programs, including Technical Specialist-level sign-off before FDJ
- Enhance and manage Foundation documents, including DVP, DFMEA, interface diagrams, and boundary diagrams
- Define and validate BoF architecture system assumptions during the MR-to-PSC development phase
- Validate and optimize standard and mixed-metal joint designs in BIW architectures
- Cooperate with Architecture & Applications CAE teams to develop new BoF architectures and optimize existing platforms
- Develop lightweight designs using aluminum high-pressure die casting, plastic-metal hybrids, magnesium thixo-molding, and aluminum and steel sheet applications
- Deliver aligned requirements and design-rule checks for hand-off to Applications Structures Engineering
- Promote Ford’s leadership in BoF architectures and innovation in production structure designs
- Implement new architecture designs and joining processes in forward-model programs
- Leverage Ford manufacturing assets to meet exterior cost targets
- Use AI and simulation tools to reduce external support and physical testing
- Document BoF architecture strategies aligned with Ford Purchasing sourcing-efficiency objectives
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering required
- Minimum of 8 years of experience in Body Exterior Systems and Structure product development
- Direct advancement (UNV/UPV-series), validation (FJD/DCV), and industrialization/launch experience
- Body Engineering Design and Release experience in Body Exterior Systems and Structures
- Advanced Technology development experience, particularly body structure systems and mixed-material aluminum bonding
- Experience with GPDS milestone delivery and knowledge of GTDS timing milestones for new technologies
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including successful technical presentations to senior leadership
- Working knowledge and experience with Catia V5 and TeamCenter Engineering
- Catia V6/3DX Level 1 CAD capability experience required
- Demonstrated Leadership Behaviors aligned with Leadership+
- Strong collaboration and negotiation skills to drive global alignment on efficient BoF system design solutions
- Strong technical and non-technical team problem-solving skills
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States
- Master of Science degree in Technical Engineering for Engineering Management preferred
- Skill in systems interaction and integration with frames, battery structures, chassis, seats and restraints, and interior trim preferred
