About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Lead Design & Release activities for nylon molded and metal pan and stamped covers across current and future applications
  • Develop component designs meeting sealing, fluid retention, and structural performance requirements
  • Lead component design, validation, and FMEA activities
  • Manage prototype and production build delivery and quality
  • Collaborate with manufacturing, quality, and supply chain teams on design feasibility and manufacturability
  • Drive continuous improvement to optimize component weight, cost, and performance
  • Lead cross-functional supplier-selection meetings with Product Development, Purchasing, Finance, and Cost Estimating
  • Interface with systems engineering, Ford manufacturing plants, component suppliers, CAD/CAE, and manufacturing engineering
  • Create and maintain DFMEA, DVP&R, P-Diagram, and Boundary Diagram documents
  • Plan and manage prototype parts ordering and component/system-level testing
  • Manage supplier delivery and Ford milestones through Job1
  • Complete PPAP and production implementation for new programs or changes to existing parts
  • Analyze warranty and test hardware to identify failure root causes and define corrective actions using 8D methods
  • Benchmark and implement current-model quality and cost-reduction actions

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering or similar discipline
  • 2+ years of experience with transmission pans and covers
  • 1+ years of CAD experience
  • Strong engineering, problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills
  • Working knowledge of GD&T and quality management processes/tools
  • Experience reading and creating engineering drawings and specifications
  • Experience performing failure analysis of mechanical systems and components
  • Knowledge of Six Sigma principles
  • Experience using Minitab or a similar statistical analysis tool
  • Working knowledge of CAD/CAE tools, AutoCAD, MagicDraw, and SysML
  • Basic understanding of manufacturing processes, metallurgy, and heat treatment of steel
  • Working knowledge of MS Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Working knowledge of Ford release systems (WERS)
  • Some travel to suppliers or assembly plants may be required
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States
  • Visa sponsorship is not available
