About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Define and deliver next-generation manufacturing processes in support of future-model vehicle programs.
  • This job supports the engineering of stamping dies for Ford’s core sheet metal panels.
  • Conduct early stamping process feasibility in an integrated CAD/CAE environment.
  • Lead the creation of draw die CAD developments and construction release files for new model stampings.
  • Update and maintain existing stamping die process information.
  • Develop stamping die processes for new model parts, optimized for cost and quality, while meeting timing to achieve company objectives.
  • Perform simulations of stamping processes for comprehensive formability evaluation.
  • Optimize stamping processes through draw and line die simulations.
  • Interface with Design and Release activities.
  • Provide feedback to product design to correct stamping concerns through the launch of production.
  • Support die design and tooling construction problem resolution.
  • Domestic Travel Required up to 10%.

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s degree or foreign equivalent in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Material Science or a related field and/or 4-6 years of progressive, post-baccalaureate experience in the job offered or a related occupation.
  • Expertise in sheet metal forming to engineer and validate automotive Class-A/B closure panels, ensuring surface quality, manufacturability and structural integrity during die process development.
  • Strong CAD skills using CATIA V5, 3DX to create draw development and binder geometry for stamping dies, supporting accurate tooling design and process planning.
  • Autoform (or similar) software expertise to simulate and analyze sheet metal forming processes, identifying potential formability issues and optimizing die designs for production feasibility.
  • Basic understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) principles to interpret and validate design specifications for sheet metal components, ensuring compliance with dimensional and functional requirements.
  • In depth knowledge of designing and implementing die processes for stamping sheet metal parts using large and extra-large presses, optimizing for material flow, press capability, and production efficiency.
  • Good troubleshooting skills to find root cause of die process issues.
  • Microsoft Office experience to include PowerPoint, Outlook Excel and Word.
  • Up to 10% of local travel.
