About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • 5 days on site in the laboratory delivering new electrolyte blends to the team.
  • Develop custom electrolyte blends for varying cell chemistries that improve cell performance, including capacity and durability.
  • Work with electrolyte suppliers to develop new additives and blends for new chemistries and technical requirements.
  • Understand what each electrolyte ingredient is contributing to cell performance and durability.
  • Strongly motivated to work collaboratively with a diverse team of engineers, chemists, materials scientists, physicists, and technicians.
  • Learn existing and develop new lab processes and equipment.
  • Deliver results in the form of presentations, papers, and inventions.

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelors /Masters in materials science, materials engineering, chemical engineering, chemistry, or related fields.
  • 3 years of experience in Li-ion batteries with experimental skills in processing active material, performing cell testing and advanced material characterization methods. (Thesis and/or Dissertation allowed)
  • Battery liquid electrolyte experience should include blending custom formulations including high voltage cathode applications.
  • Liquid electrolyte analysis including NMR, GC, LC, IC, MS, FTIR, and other techniques as applicable.
  • Fundamental understanding of chemical processes and mechanisms within batteries from formation to end of life.
  • Even better, you may have... PhD in battery materials science, engineering, chemistry or related fields
  • Experience with testing and characterizing Na-ion batteries is a plus.
  • A wide range of material analysis experience is also desirable. This may include teardown and post-mortem analysis of materials from pouch, cylindrical, and/or prismatic cells using porosimetry, ICP, XRD, SEM, TEM etc.
  • A track record of written and/or oral presentations of research findings to specialist or non-specialist audiences.
