About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Serve as the Senior Technical Lead for certification and regulatory compliance for assigned BESS programs
- Ensure architectural alignment and technical execution
- Act as the technical bridge between engineering, commissioning, Sales PMO, and external reviewers
- Define what is required for a compliant, safe, and defensible system
- Lead certification strategy and execution
- Establish internal processes for certification readiness
- Monitor evolving certification standards and industry practices
- Ensure BESS solutions are designed according to codes
- Oversee site-specific assessments for safe deployment
- Develop and maintain technical compliance artifacts
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Systems, or Fire Protection Engineering.
- 10+ years of experience in BESS, energy storage, or electrical equipment certification.
- Demonstrated ownership of UL certification programs for energy storage or related high-voltage systems.
- Strong working knowledge of UL, NFPA, and TM-2 codes and standards.
- Proven experience working with test laboratories, certification bodies, and independent engineering firms.
- Master’s degree or PhD in a relevant technical field (even better).
- Direct experience with UL 9540, UL 9540A, UL 1973, and NFPA 855 (even better).
- Experience interfacing with AHJs, insurers, lenders, and EPCs (even better).
- Background in independent engineering or technical due diligence for energy infrastructure (even better).
- Experience using CAE and simulation tools to support safety analysis and design verification (even better).
