About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Serve as the Senior Technical Lead for certification and regulatory compliance for assigned BESS programs
  • Ensure architectural alignment and technical execution
  • Act as the technical bridge between engineering, commissioning, Sales PMO, and external reviewers
  • Define what is required for a compliant, safe, and defensible system
  • Lead certification strategy and execution
  • Establish internal processes for certification readiness
  • Monitor evolving certification standards and industry practices
  • Ensure BESS solutions are designed according to codes
  • Oversee site-specific assessments for safe deployment
  • Develop and maintain technical compliance artifacts

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Systems, or Fire Protection Engineering.
  • 10+ years of experience in BESS, energy storage, or electrical equipment certification.
  • Demonstrated ownership of UL certification programs for energy storage or related high-voltage systems.
  • Strong working knowledge of UL, NFPA, and TM-2 codes and standards.
  • Proven experience working with test laboratories, certification bodies, and independent engineering firms.
  • Master’s degree or PhD in a relevant technical field (even better).
  • Direct experience with UL 9540, UL 9540A, UL 1973, and NFPA 855 (even better).
  • Experience interfacing with AHJs, insurers, lenders, and EPCs (even better).
  • Background in independent engineering or technical due diligence for energy infrastructure (even better).
  • Experience using CAE and simulation tools to support safety analysis and design verification (even better).
