About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Serve as the Senior Technical Lead for certification and regulatory compliance for assigned BESS programs
Ensure architectural alignment and technical execution
Act as the technical bridge between engineering, commissioning, Sales PMO, and external reviewers
Define what is required for a compliant, safe, and defensible system
Lead certification strategy and execution
Establish internal processes for certification readiness
Monitor evolving certification standards and industry practices
Ensure BESS solutions are designed according to codes
Oversee site-specific assessments for safe deployment
Develop and maintain technical compliance artifacts

Requirements

What you’ll need

Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Systems, or Fire Protection Engineering.
10+ years of experience in BESS, energy storage, or electrical equipment certification.
Demonstrated ownership of UL certification programs for energy storage or related high-voltage systems.
Strong working knowledge of UL, NFPA, and TM-2 codes and standards.
Proven experience working with test laboratories, certification bodies, and independent engineering firms.
Master’s degree or PhD in a relevant technical field (even better).
Direct experience with UL 9540, UL 9540A, UL 1973, and NFPA 855 (even better).
Experience interfacing with AHJs, insurers, lenders, and EPCs (even better).
Background in independent engineering or technical due diligence for energy infrastructure (even better).
Experience using CAE and simulation tools to support safety analysis and design verification (even better).
