About the role

  • Strategic Management of Litigation Portfolio: Take full responsibility for the portfolio of administrative and judicial tax proceedings of the group companies in Brazil. This includes in-depth analysis of issued tax assessments, defining the most appropriate defense strategy and supervising its execution through all instances.
  • Coordination of External Law Firms: Select, coordinate and actively manage specialized external law firms. This involves ensuring strict compliance with procedural deadlines, aligning defense and litigation strategies, supervising the quality of work, and managing contracts and the budget allocated for these services.
  • Monitoring and Updating Systems: Keep the company’s electronic case management system (Projuris, or other internal system) rigorously updated, recording every development, deadline and relevant decision.
  • Legislative and Jurisprudential Monitoring and Analysis: Maintain constant, proactive monitoring of federal, state and municipal tax legislation, as well as of legal theories and cases under discussion in courts and administrative bodies that may impact or be of interest to the company.
  • Identification of Opportunities and Risks: Based on the analysis of assessments, transactions and legislative/jurisprudential developments, proactively identify opportunities for tax savings or potential risks and report them to the relevant areas.
  • Management of Tax Contingencies: Work closely with accounting, tax and audit teams to update and quantify tax contingencies. This includes preparing monthly and quarterly closings and reviewing financial statements with respect to tax provisions.
  • Reports and Presentations: Prepare detailed reports and executive presentations on the status of the litigation portfolio, the evolution of contingencies and other topics relevant to senior management and other areas.
  • Internal and External Support: Provide tax litigation support to operational areas in the analysis of new business initiatives, assist the Tax Audit/Compliance team in responding to public authorities, and actively participate in internal and external audits, providing required information and support.
  • Tax Compliance: Manage the renewal processes for federal and state tax compliance certificates, ensuring the company meets its formal obligations.
  • Analysis of Special Programs: Evaluate and calculate the tax effects of participating in amnesty programs, REFIS or similar schemes.
  • Monitoring of Tax Criminal Cases: In coordination with the legal department and external firms, monitor criminal proceedings related to tax matters, aligning defense strategies.
  • Modernization and Continuous Improvement: Support and lead initiatives to simplify and modernize tax management, promoting the use of technological tools and data analytics to improve efficiency and decision-making.
  • Support for Corporate Transactions: Prepare tax reports and reviews for corporate transactions and initiatives that require a litigation analysis.
  • Multidisciplinary Collaboration: Actively participate and collaborate on projects involving teams from different areas of the company.

Requirements

  • University degree in Law or Accounting.
  • Advanced professional qualification or mandatory postgraduate degree in Tax Law, Accounting, Finance or a related discipline.
  • Solid and proven experience in Tax Litigation (administrative and judicial) in Brazil, preferably in multinational companies or large law firms focused on corporate clients.
  • Extensive knowledge of the Brazilian National Tax Code, federal, state and municipal tax legislation, as well as relevant jurisprudence from the higher courts (STF, STJ) and administrative bodies (CARF, appellate tax tribunals).
  • Experience managing a significant portfolio of cases and defining complex defense strategies.
  • Ability to effectively work with and coordinate external law firms.
  • Experience updating and managing case control systems (knowledge of Projuris is a plus).
  • English: Fluent.
  • Excellent analytical skills.
  • Strong writing and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously, prioritize activities and meet tight deadlines, demonstrating organization and a strong work ethic.
