About the role
- Provide comprehensive legal counsel on a wide range of cutting-edge privacy, AI and data protection matters, ensuring compliance with global laws and regulations
- Lead a small but dynamic legal team supporting Enterprise Technology clients
- Develop, modernize, and deploy data & privacy compliance strategies and data governance frameworks
- Attend client meetings to spot potential data and privacy issues early and proactively develop winning strategies to address potential risks
- Partner with legal, policy, and operational teams as a trusted thought partner to create and implement effective risk mitigation approaches
- Partner with a global team of privacy professionals to support worldwide projects and enterprise solutions
- Monitor regulatory changes and update internal standards and requirements as needed
Requirements
- Subject-matter expertise in global data and privacy laws in major jurisdictions, including the FTC Act, CCPA and other US state privacy laws, GLB Act, GDPR, EU AI Act, NIS2, EU Data Act, PIPEDA, as well as NIST privacy, cyber and AI governance frameworks
- JD degree, and active member of a U.S. state bar association, in good standing.
- 8+ years at a major law firm or large corporation providing data and privacy legal advice, or supporting data and privacy compliance strategy and implementation.
- Exceptional oral and written communication skills, including an ability to communicate complex legal requirements into actionable and easy-to-understand guidance and to adapt messaging for diverse audiences
- Strategic problem-solving skills, capable of balancing big picture strategy, diverse stakeholder interests, and real-world challenges
- Prior leadership experience managing direct reports, with experience building, motivating, managing, and retaining talent
- Deep understanding of consent strategies, particularly in an automotive or IoT setting
- Passion for privacy and building privacy into the design of everyday products.
- Hands-on experience developing and applying AI governance principles and controls
- Significant data protection experience to advise on cybersecurity regulations and reasonable data security controls
- Experience with privacy, cyber and/or AI impact assessments, with a strong understanding of data governance, compliance controls, and risk mitigation
- A deep understanding of existing data and privacy regulatory landscape as well as legal trends to be able to future-proof guidance
- Ability to manage and prioritize multiple, complex projects across your team.
- Strong business acumen and the ability to offer strategic advice to business, product, design, and engineering teams
- Ability to interact comfortably with senior executives and managers
- Technical fluency and experience with privacy enhancing technologies and other emerging technologies
- OEM experience a plus
- IAPP certifications preferred
- Availability for meetings during Dearborn, MI working hours
- Ability to travel as needed for in-person meetings (approx.. 1-2 times per year)
