About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Lead and execute independent Functional Safety Assessments and Confirmation Reviews for high-criticality features and platform architectures at ASIL C/D
- Evaluate Item Definitions, Impact Analyses, HARAs, Functional and Technical Safety Concepts, Safety Requirements Specifications, Safety Analysis Reports, and Supplier Safety Assessment Reports
- Maintain assessor independence according to ISO 26262 Part 2
- Collaborate with functional safety, systems engineering, architecture, design, software/hardware, and validation teams
- Present assessment findings, non-conformances, and safety recommendations to governance boards and program leadership
- Audit FMEA, FMEDA, FTA, MBSE safety models, safety goal derivations, ASIL allocations, safe-state strategies, FTTI, and freedom-from-interference arguments
- Assess supplier safety deliverables and Development Interface Agreements for third-party software and hardware integration
- Evaluate safety requirement cascading and traceability in Jama and VSEM
- Audit safety Verification & Validation plans and test reports before vehicle milestones and GPDS chief sign-offs
- Identify safety lifecycle process gaps and drive continuous improvement
- Use Python and automation for safety metric reporting, FMEDA analysis, data extraction, and assessment tracking
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Mechatronics, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent experience
- 3+ years of experience applying ISO 26262 in automotive functional safety, including HARA, Functional/Technical Safety Concepts, and Safety Cases for ASIL B/C/D systems
- 3+ years of experience with automotive E/E architecture, vehicle networking (CAN, CAN-FD, LIN, Ethernet), and embedded software/hardware systems
- Experience collaborating across technical teams, facilitating reviews, and communicating safety requirements to diverse stakeholders
- 2+ years conducting or evaluating FMEA, FMEDA, FTA, HAZOP, or Dependent Failures Analysis
- 2+ years managing project timelines, tracking deliverables against program milestones, and reporting to governance boards
- 1+ year of experience with Python or similar scripting/programming languages for automation and data analysis
- Master's degree, Functional Safety certification, MBSE tools, requirements management systems, automotive quality/cybersecurity standards, and AI/ML knowledge are listed as additional qualifications
