About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Develop control systems for gasoline and hybrid powertrains and subsystems, including Air, Fuel, Spark, EGR and aftertreatment
  • Employ advanced control methods such as Model Predictive Control, Adaptive Control and Optimal Control
  • Apply signal processing techniques to new powertrain technologies and existing control systems
  • Develop models and simulations for system characterization, control design, implementation and validation
  • Develop engine diagnostics for OBD regulation
  • Collect and analyze experimental engine and vehicle data
  • Design experiments and test plans to validate engine control systems
  • Perform vehicle and dynamometer-based testing
  • Develop vehicle and gasoline engine test plans
  • Develop requirements and perform system engineering analysis
  • Identify critical noise factors and evaluate controller robustness
  • Implement control systems in embedded C software
  • Work with HIL/SIL/MIL teams to test software and requirements compliance
  • Manage software releases using ClearCase and GitHub
  • Design and set up experimental control systems using systems such as D-Space, ATI no-hooks, MicroAutoBox and Speedgoat
  • Specify instrumentation for experimental vehicle and dynamometer test setups
  • Develop calibration tools and documentation
  • Leverage artificial intelligence to improve design efficiency and work processes
  • Present designs and performance against requirements to senior management and subject matter experts

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Requires a master’s or foreign equivalent degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, aerospace engineering or a related engineering field
  • 3 years of experience performing control design and modeling for mechanical or electrical systems, or accepted degree/experience alternatives
  • 3 years of experience performing control development and systems analysis with Matlab and Simulink, or accepted degree/experience alternatives
  • 3 years of experience performing data analysis for mechanical or electrical systems, or accepted degree/experience alternatives
  • 1 year of experience designing controls for and testing internal combustion engines and emissions, or accepted degree/experience alternatives
  • 1 year of experience applying advanced signal processing techniques, or accepted degree/experience alternatives
  • 1 year of experience working with hybrid powertrain or related coursework
  • Experience working in cross functional teams
  • Experience presenting to stakeholders and management
  • Experience with HIL / SIL methods
  • Experience with engine calibration tools and rapid prototyping systems
  • Working knowledge of C programming language and ability to code in C in embedded controllers
  • Experience may be acquired concurrently
  • Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States
  • Visa sponsorship is not available
