About the role

  • Lead/support High Time in Service Quality Projects using Design for Six Sigma / 8D processes on aggressive timelines to support IPTSE’s warranty spend and failure rate reduction targets.
  • Responsibilities include evaluation of high warranty spend/failure rate subsystems and engine/vehicle applications with a focus on issues that contribute to > 12 MIS warranty and/or are design/physics related versus supplier quality/manufacturing defect related.
  • Projects will be expected to rapidly work through the Define, Characterize, Optimize and Verify phases of the DFSS process including root cause identification and verification, implementation of ICA/PCA’s, read across and prevent recurrence.
  • Project leaders/supporters will be expected to present frequently to senior management project status and results, interface regularly with quality, powerpack and core engineers and TS’s and maintain required project documentation including 1-pagers, 6-panels, 8D reports, management summary documents, etc.
  • Strong focus on warranty data/trend analysis, part return analysis and physical understanding of engine/powertrain systems and subsystems as key tools to identification root cause and interim and permanent corrective actions.
  • Help develop relationships with dealerships and fleets as key sources of information to quickly identify and resolve HTIS quality issues.
  • Ability to design, execute or coordinate analytical and physical testing from component bench level to full powertrain/vehicle testing to identify root cause, replicate quality issues and validate fixes.
  • Identify and document lessons learned for knowledge preservation.
  • Lead/attend team meetings.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or equivalent experience
  • 3+ years of experience with internal combustion engines, thermal systems or after-treatment systems in one or more of the following areas: Design, Test, Controls, Calibration.
  • 2+ years of experience in project leadership, driving initiatives to achieve timely milestones and ensuring the attainment of crucial key performance indicators (KPIs)
  • 6-Sigma green belt, black belt and Design for Six Sigma experience a plus.
  • Familiarity/experience with Ford’s Strategic Problem Solving tools including key root cause identification tools (y=f(x), stress/strength interference, 3L5W, etc.)
  • Familiarity/experience with Ford’s Failure Mode Avoidance and Robustness and Reliability processes (P-Diagram, DFMEA, RCL, etc.)
  • Familiarity with Ford’s quality tools including GSAR, MWATS, QED, etc.
  • Knowledge of key engine/powertrain subsystems including base engine, cooling, airpath, fuel, after-treatment, etc.
  • Strong project management, problem solving and organization skills
  • Excellent teamwork and communication skills
  • Self-starter with the ability to manage multiple work streams simultaneously
