Interact with and correspond with external parties, including regulators
Oversee strategy and manage outside counsel in handling litigation, routine subpoenas, and government subpoenas and investigations
Work with Deputy General Counsel and other members of the Legal team to provide risk assessments and form appropriate litigation strategy
Maintain legal files and litigation summaries
Analyze and respond to various legal correspondence, including attorney demand letters
Manage escalated consumer complaint responses
Collaborate cross-functionally with Compliance/Licensing, Operations, Servicing, and other groups to advise on federal and state consumer regulatory compliance, including state and federal privacy law
Present on compliance, legal, and complaint matters, as requested
Ensure timely identification, mitigation, and resolution of existing and emerging legal issues and risks, and escalating appropriate issues as needed
Support the continuous improvement of the Company's legal processes
Keep informed of industry-specific regulations to ensure that appropriate risk management strategies are in place
Assist with NDAs, service level agreements, and other types of commercial agreements
Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
Juris Doctor (JD) Degree; membership in good standing in a state bar association required
Minimum of 6-8 years of experience practicing litigation
Minimum of 2 years working in (or with) the financial services and/or tech industries
Deep understanding of consumer regulatory issues as they relate to consumer lending or servicing required
Proven experience with defending companies in consumer litigation, as well as pre-litigation disputes
Experience practicing in-house as a financial services regulatory lawyer, with specific experience in consumer lending, and a strong understanding of how to apply and navigate the state and federal regulations around financial services and technology preferred
Experience reviewing and negotiating NDAs, service level agreements, licensing agreements, partnership agreements and/or other types of commercial agreements preferred
Experience working in the Solar or Home Improvement space preferred
Experience with state and federal privacy laws and regulations preferred
Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel)
Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
Outstanding problem-solving and time management skills

Adaptable and able to multitask in a fast-paced environment
