About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Inspect operations seeking or maintaining USDA organic certification
Coordinate with producers/handlers to schedule inspections within a determined timeframe
Conduct field/facility inspections in accordance with policies and standards
Collect food, product, or environmental samples from client sites
Interview operation personnel, request and review operation records
Report observations and inspection findings
Submit all required documents by the due date
Conduct unannounced inspections and gather samples
Maintain effective and prompt communication with supervisor, colleagues, and clients
Witness, train, and evaluate peer inspectors as needed

Requirements

What you’ll need

Bachelor’s degree in agriculture, food science, environmental science, quality management, or related field (or equivalent practical experience)
Inspectors must demonstrate a minimum of 2,000 hours (1 year) of relevant experience
Comprehension of NOP regulations (7 CFR Part 205)
Documentation of sufficient training to demonstrate relevant knowledge, skills, and experience required to inspect operations
Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
