About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Lead project teams in realizing project-specific requirements and serve as the Controls, application modes, and grid integration subject matter expert
- Lead integration of the Fluence BESS control system into Transmission System Operator EMS systems
- Develop logic and control schemes for remote and local BESS operation to meet TSO requirements
- Guide field engineers in resolving controls-related issues during system commissioning and testing
- Contribute to product development engineering for utility-scale energy storage solutions, including controls application development, implementation, and testing
- Develop standardized FAT/SAT test procedures and execute tests to reduce commissioning time
- Perform hands-on laboratory testing during prototype system evaluations
- Manage client and subcontractor interfaces to ensure Controls compliance during tender and project execution
- Develop and maintain documentation for Controls infrastructure, including hardware, applications, protocols, communication links, and backup/recovery strategies
- Maintain knowledge of company products, developments, and projects relevant to site- and enterprise-level Controls networks
- Manage change-control procedures and documentation
- Monitor industry best practices and technology developments
- Support company strategy and provide reporting and updates to leadership
- Develop and recommend performance management and feedback for Controls technical support KPIs
- Execute tasks related to Fluence safety KPIs
- Travel throughout EMEA
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor’s / Master’s degree in computer or industrial engineering with a focus on automation and controls, or equivalent
- Minimum 5 years of relevant Controls, software, or programming experience in a power utility or related industry
- Experience designing, operating, and maintaining a power plant
- Expertise in electricity transmission/distribution, EMS systems, grid-code and requirements analysis, and grid-services algorithms
- Expertise with IEC 60870-5-101/103/104, IEC 61850 MMS, DNP3, Modbus, TCP/IP, PLCs, RTUs, SEL RTAC, SEL relays and meters, Siemens relays and meters, SCADA gateways, and data concentrators
- Experience with Linux systems and commands, Python, shell/bash scripting, and GitHub
- Experience with MathWorks Simulink, C, and C++
- Expertise designing, operating, and maintaining high-voltage electrical equipment, including inverters, transformers, I/O racks, telecommunications, and controllers
- Solution-oriented mindset
- Good communication skills
- Fluency in English and German; other language skills desired
