About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Support the growth of Fluence’s Mosaic software in Japan
- Act as an internal subject matter expert on Japanese electricity market operations, regulatory developments, market systems, bidding, and dispatch procedures
- Identify customer unmet needs and pain points and communicate them to Product Management and Data Science teams
- Assist with scoping new Mosaic modules and functionalities
- Capture clients’ commercial imperatives and help them leverage Mosaic features to achieve their objectives
- Monitor trading outcomes of Mosaic-bid BESS assets and conduct ex-post reviews
- Identify and socialize lessons learned with internal and external stakeholders
- Monitor the market and provide proactive advice on conditions requiring intervention or algorithmic bid overrides
- Advise clients on effective override strategies
- Support the sales process in a Sales Engineering capacity by explaining market and technical service details
- Collaborate with Business Development, Product Management, Data Science, Marketing, and Account Management teams
- Report to the APAC Energy Markets Director
Requirements
What you’ll need- At least 5 years of experience working in the Japanese electricity markets
- Ideally experience at an aggregator or BESS operator
- Familiarity with physical electricity trading
- Experience with electricity and balancing market operations
- Experience with bidding, dispatch, and settlement processes, including interfacing with TSOs
- Familiarity with IT systems used by asset owners and aggregators to manage bidding and dispatch, including EMS and AC/RA systems
- Experience with operational challenges facing BESS in Japan’s electricity market
- Genuine interest in BESS and electricity markets
- Comfort handling large datasets and distilling and communicating actionable analytical insights
- Business proficiency in Japanese (fluency)
- At least moderate proficiency in English
- Problem-solving attitude and ability to work dynamically with diverse internal and external stakeholders
- Willingness to wear multiple hats and thrive in a start-up environment
- Willingness to collaborate and help a small team thrive
- Desire to contribute to the growth and innovation of Japan’s BESS industry
- Occasional business travel required
