Global Commodity Engineer – Large Steel Fabrication
FlenderGlobal Commodity Engineer managing supplier relationships and procurement in large steel fabrication. Collaborating on product innovation and ensuring quality and reliability across Flender's supply chain.
About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Responsibility for the global technical supplier management in the Large Steel Fabrication commodity (welded structures including machining), from supplier selection and auditing to sustainable development
- Execution of supplier qualifications (including process audits, technical evaluations, and approvals) and establishment of a high-performing and competitive international supplier network
- Close collaboration with the Head of Global Commodity Management and the Head of Global Commodity Engineering to implement and further develop the global commodity and supplier strategy
- Ensuring a stable and resilient supply chain for all Flender locations, considering quality, cost, and delivery reliability
- Providing technical support and continuous development of the supplier management within the commodity
- Driving product and technology projects, particularly in the context of new product introductions and innovation initiatives
- Acting as an interface between procurement, engineering, quality, and suppliers on a global level
- Identification and implementation of cost optimization and value engineering initiatives in close collaboration with the CVE team (including cost breakdowns, should-costing, and design-to-cost approaches)
Requirements
What you’ll need- Successfully completed degree in mechanical engineering, industrial engineering, business administration, or a comparable qualification
- Several years of professional experience in strategic procurement, commodity engineering, supply chain management, or quality management, ideally in mechanical or plant engineering
- Solid knowledge of welded structures manufacturing (e.g., welding processes, materials, machining, and relevant EN/ISO standards)
- Experience in supplier development and evaluation, as well as working with international supplier networks, ideally applying APQP-WIND and PPF (PPAP) processes
- Confident handling of technical drawings, specifications, and manufacturing processes
- Strong analytical skills and experience in cost structure analysis and negotiation preparation
