About the role

  • Provide expertise in translating programs, automation tools, code, and scripts from Python to new support program platforms.
  • Develop and write programs and scripts to automate the management, maintenance, and standardization of large datasets, including but not limited to the Public Land Survey, Land Area Representation (LAR), and Land Status data.
  • Convert large datasets into approved data models for internal use as well as publication-ready data designs.
  • Design and code new programs, scripts, and routines to automate operations, improving data management, maintenance workflows, and map production.
  • Devise and deploy automated tools for the efficient creation, update, and management of Indian land tract, reservation boundary, ownership, lease, and right-of-way data synchronized with the Trust Asset and Accounting Management System (TAAMS).
  • Ensure that legal land description data extracted from TAAMS is topologically aligned, where appropriate, with the official published version of the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Public Land Survey System (PLSS) Cadastral National Spatial Data Infrastructure (CAD NSDI) Geographic Coordinate Database (GCDB) GIS data.
  • Assist with scripting and automation for special projects within the Division and, when needed, across other divisions to support critical missions.

Requirements

  • Must have knowledge of server or client scripting and/or processing solutions
  • Required languages and technologies include Python, PowerShell, JavaScript, and other web technologies to work efficiently with technical team members
  • Must be able to comprehend IT server and geodatabase architecture and design principles to develop resource information management and information delivery systems
  • Professional expertise in writing and translating programs, automation tools, code, and scripts
  • Knowledge of large datasets, including Public Land Survey, Land Area Representation (LAR), and Land Status data
  • Familiarity with the ESRI Suite of GIS software and related programming or model-building techniques is required.
