About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Oversee first-line credit underwriting and portfolio management within assigned business lines
  • Manage underwriters and credit professionals, including Credit Products Specialists and Credit Products Analysts
  • Ensure accurate risk ratings, loan evaluation, underwriting, and ongoing portfolio management
  • Identify emerging credit risks and opportunities using data-driven insights and portfolio analytics
  • Provide recommendations to leadership supporting sound credit decisions
  • Collaborate with sales, risk, technology, legal, and compliance teams
  • Maintain credit quality across assigned portfolios and lending verticals
  • Establish consistent credit decisioning and risk management practices across regions and verticals
  • Recruit, develop, coach, and retain credit underwriting and portfolio management talent
  • Serve as a point of contact for deal-flow assignment, credit-risk reviews, and escalations
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, internal policies, and risk frameworks
  • Provide credit-risk reporting and portfolio analysis to senior leadership
  • Support continuous improvement, transformation initiatives, and strategic decision-making
  • Interact with legal counsel and negotiate credit-agreement terms directly with clients

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Undergraduate Degree (4 years or equivalent) in Business, Economics, or related field and Master's Degree (or Postgraduate equivalent)
  • 12+ years of first-line credit underwriting, portfolio management, and risk management experience within the financial industry
  • Experience in credit strategy and credit analytics
  • 5+ years of experience managing teams of credit analysts and underwriters in a specialty vertical
  • 5+ years of experience in a specialized line of business, such as specialized commercial industries, capital markets, or corporate commercial banking
  • Expertise in credit bureaus, credit decision engines, credit and cash-flow modeling, income/identity verification, and loss forecasting
  • Strong knowledge of federal and state laws and regulations related to credit decisions
  • Working knowledge of the syndicated loan market and related processes for certain lines of business
  • Proficiency in underwriting models, portfolio management strategies, and risk assessment
  • Effective communication and presentation skills
  • Ability to translate credit analysis into actionable strategies and policies
  • Ability to incorporate industry knowledge and market trends into credit-risk assessments
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and execute tasks efficiently
  • Strong leadership, coaching, collaboration, and team-development skills
  • Knowledge of legal documentation, including credit agreements
  • Ability to interact with legal counsel and negotiate terms directly with clients
  • Ability to comply with applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations
