About the role

  • Install, maintain, and customize z/OS operating systems and 3rd party ISV system software
  • Prepare and install system software including OS and 3rd party packages following vendor and location-specific procedures
  • Perform problem determination and resolution, capture/transmit system dumps, apply fixes and patches, coordinate testing and implementation
  • Collaborate with Operations, Development, capacity and performance teams to address incidents, performance issues, and production roll-outs
  • Automate operational processes such as IPLs, Cold Loads, and dump processing
  • Provide informal project management and training to clients and colleagues
  • Assist Operations Engineering zSeries leaders in reviewing software requirements and establishing technical direction and business strategy
  • Support mainframe hardware upgrades to the latest technology

Requirements

  • 7+ years' experience with installing ISV software from vendors such as Broadcom, BMC, Precisely
  • 6+ years' experience with JCL, UNIX Shell, IBM system utilities, zSeries, z/OS and MVS
  • 6+ years' experience with software installation and customization
  • 5+ years' experience with system performance, capacity planning and disaster recovery
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field or an equivalent combination of education, military, and work experience
  • Experience installing ISV software from vendors such as Broadcom, BMC, Precisely
  • Knowledge of key subsystems such as DB2, CICS, MQ, HSM, DASD and Tape devices, Catalogs, Coupling Facilities, and Sysplexes
  • Relevant certifications in mainframe technologies and performance management (preferred)
  • In-depth knowledge of mainframe architecture, operating systems (e.g., IBM z/OS), and job control languages (e.g., JCL)
  • Ability to work with vendor technical support and capture/transmit system dumps
  • Requires use of a computer and audio equipment
