About the role

  • Managing legal matters to protect FIS’ intellectual property rights
  • Work closely with management, development, and product teams
  • Providing strategic intellectual property counseling on patents, trade secrets, open-source software, and software licensing
  • Developing innovation protection strategy for patent filing
  • Partnering with law firms to draft, file and prosecute patent assets
  • Providing counsel on intellectual property aspects of software product development
  • Drafting, reviewing, and negotiating source code licenses

Requirements

  • A law degree, such as a Juris Doctor or other comparable degree
  • Admission to practice law in the appropriate jurisdiction
  • Admission to the United States Patent and Trademark Bar
  • 2-6 years of legal experience with a primary focus on patent prosecution in a corporate in-house or law firm environment
  • Excellent knowledge of US and international intellectual property laws with a focus on patent laws
  • Extensive experience with patent prosecution and portfolio management
  • Strong communication, research, writing, and analytical skills
  • The ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to review and evaluate multi-faceted issues and counsel business colleagues on complex legal questions relating to various intellectual property issues
  • Experience advising clients in a complex, diversified, matrixed, global organization
  • Experience prioritizing and managing multiple projects efficiently and effectively in a fast-paced business environment and driving complex projects to completion.
