About the role

  • Define and evolve a pragmatic technical roadmap that delivers incremental, high-impact improvements
  • Deliver solutions to customer and internal feature requests
  • Anticipate platform limitations and mitigate them within budget/resource constraints
  • Turn complex challenges into simple, scalable solutions
  • Balance the best solution with the decision that solves the problem, makes the delivery date and fits with long-term platform goals
  • Identify organizational alignment gaps and resolve them effectively
  • Prepare and defend issues with Root Cause Analyses (RCAs) and technical solution plans
  • Act as a primary technical communicator with customers and vendors
  • Mentor and grow engineers, with a focus on knowledge transfer to junior teammates
  • Establish shared priorities, clear ownership, and accountability
  • Structure teams effectively, knowing when lean execution is best
  • Manage life cycle times and drive end-to-end planning from the core platform to operational deployment
  • Ensure strong SDLC integration across product, development, ops, and support
  • Make tough technical decisions and take accountability for outcomes
  • Gain deep knowledge of T-Mobile’s end-to-end architecture; partner with Operations, Tier 3 support, and Development
  • Own vendor interface documentation
  • Lead test system flows, tooling, and capacity reporting
  • Oversee lab environments across (including those on customer premise)
  • Own data/access security (retention policies, TMO network access, AWS data paths)
  • Forecast hardware needs, manage budgets, and write vendor specifications
  • Act as the final escalation point (T3/T4) for complex technical issues
  • Form hypotheses quickly and iterate, confident in being wrong before being right
  • Relentlessly drive issues to resolution
  • Balance smart delegation with stepping in when only you can solve it
  • Strong day-to-day fluency in Linux/bash
  • Earn and maintain the trust of TMO engineering and external partners
  • Back up customer-facing teams by answering hard technical questions
  • Deliver consistently on commitments with quality and timeliness
  • Take calculated risks that move FO forward.

Requirements

  • 10+ years building and operating large-scale, distributed, carrier-grade or network-centric systems
  • Deep understanding of carrier-grade platforms; ability to quickly master T-Mobile’s end-to-end architecture
  • Background in Titan.ium platform and architecture - preferred
  • Strong expertise in SIP/HTTP, distributed systems, and scaling architectures
  • Proven experience in capacity planning
  • Track record of incident leadership (RCA authoring, on-call ownership, executive communication)
  • Strong background in data and access security, including retention and auditability
  • AWS familiarity for backend data access and platform services
  • Experience with lab ownership, hardware planning, and vendor specification writing
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills across executive, peer, and engineering audiences
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor engineers, simplify complexity, and shorten delivery cycle times
  • Relentless follow-through and a high bias for action.
