About the role

  • Provide leadership oversight of enterprise risk, regulatory, legal, compliance, and audit functions.
  • Promote a culture of risk awareness and accountability; collaborate with internal business partners to support day-to-day operations and strategic projects.
  • Apply risk-based methodologies to simplify, automate, and strengthen controls across the Credit Union.
  • Monitor regulatory and legal developments and establish procedures to ensure compliance with relevant rules and regulations.
  • Represent the Credit Union at conferences, seminars, summits, and grassroots activities.
  • Assess, manage, and resolve control issues with transparency while adhering to policies, laws, and regulations.
  • Oversee policy administration, vendor management, and legal support.
  • Mature the ERM framework: facilitate risk identification and assessments, risk appetite/profile monitoring, risk inventory and heatmap, and training/awareness.
  • Coach, mentor, and motivate team members; serve as an active member of the Senior Leadership Team.
  • Lead teams partnering with external counsel and auditing firms; facilitate production of materials for executive management, boards, and regulators.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree is required. CA bar license a huge plus.
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in a high control-related function such as risk, compliance, legal, or audit within an organization in the financial services industry, a regulatory agency, a consulting firm, or a combination thereof.
  • Prior experience practicing law highly preferred.
  • At least 5 to 7 years of people leader experience.
  • In-depth knowledge of financial products and services, operating procedures and guidelines, and rules and regulations applicable to a bank or credit union.
  • Skilled at navigating industry outreach efforts and connecting with the Credit Union’s federal and state delegation.
  • Prior experience supporting or building governance, risk and compliance (GRC) programs at a bank or credit union.
  • Thorough knowledge of laws and regulations applicable to essential responsibilities.
  • Effective communication skills across all levels of audience.
