About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Provide expertise to the back end development team by efficiently and productively:
Developing web based applications using technologies such as NodeJS, Webpack, Firebase, ElasticSearch, GCP
Performing day to day maintenance and support of all existing applications in use at Outlaw
Preserving and optimizing the quality of the software
Innovating and improving on the software, features, processes, and technology
Query and manipulate data (troubleshoot, reports, migrations, ...)
API integration and maintenance. (Proprietary Open API, third-party APIs)
Performing detailed code reviews
Work within the assigned team to complete duties as assigned, while mentoring and reviewing more junior engineers.
Be part of an on-call rotation with other team members to provide escalated emergency support
Communicate frequently, clearly, and effectively with various technical and management audiences

Requirements

What you’ll need

7+ years Node.js backend development experience
Strong TypeScript/JavaScript skills
PostgreSQL database design and optimization
RESTful API design and implementation
Experience with cloud platforms (GCP strongly preferred)
Express.js or similar web framework
Docker and containerization
Authentication and authorization patterns
Elasticsearch experience (strongly preferred)
Microservices architecture (strongly preferred)
Message queue experience (strongly preferred)
Performance optimization expertise (strongly preferred)
Security best practices (strongly preferred)
AI/ML API integration (OpenAI, Anthropic) (strongly preferred)
Cloud Functions/serverless experience (strongly preferred)
Third-party API integration experience (strongly preferred)
Background job processing (strongly preferred)
B.S. in computer science, information systems, a related field; comparable certifications; or equivalent direct work experience
