About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Operate, maintain, and repair equipment used to produce asphalt mix under the direction of the Foreman
- Maintain a clean and orderly work site, including shoveling, sweeping, and skid steer operation
- Monitor equipment operation and material flow to produce high-quality, in-spec hot mix asphalt
- Load out trucks for material distribution using computerized operations
- Feed aggregate materials into the asphalt plant
- Replace wear components on plant equipment, including cutting, welding, and fabricating
- Work on elevated platforms and enter and monitor confined spaces
- Monitor aggregate gradations and moisture contents
- Monitor hot mix asphalt test results to verify material consistency, quality, and job-specification compliance
- Learn and safely operate several types of related construction equipment
Requirements
What you’ll need- 5+ years of relevant work experience preferred
- Valid driver’s license and satisfactory driving record
- Punctual and dependable
- Ability to work varied hours, including nights, early mornings, and weekends as needed
- Ability to tolerate and work in variable weather conditions and dirty, dusty environments
- Ability to work in confined spaces and on elevated platforms, including heights over 50 feet
- Mechanical, fabricating, and repair experience preferred
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Successfully pass aptitude tests
- High school diploma or GED equivalent preferred
- Prior experience and/or education in a related field preferred
- Member of the appropriate trade union or willingness to become a union member required; union membership is not required before employment
- Willingness to learn new tasks and perform different tasks throughout the day
- Ability to safely use welders, oxy-acetylene torches, pneumatic jackhammers, power tools, front-end loaders, skid steer loaders, aerial man lifts, telehandler lifts, water trucks, telescoping boom trucks, and dump trucks
