About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Manage all day-to-day on-site construction activities for a 200MW/800MWh BESS project
- Ensure safe, efficient, high-quality delivery in line with design specifications, programme requirements and construction best practices
- Enforce health, safety and environmental compliance across the site
- Act as the primary on-site contact for project managers, engineers and stakeholders
- Coordinate contractors, subcontractors and trades with the Principal Contractor
- Manage site planning, sequencing, logistics, access, materials, plant and resources
- Oversee civil, electrical and mechanical installations across BESS and BOP works
- Monitor milestones, daily progress, productivity, quality and programme status; mitigate delays
- Lead site briefings, inspections, audits and watching briefs; address risks and non-conformances
- Verify compliance with CDM arrangements, RAMS, SSOW and PTW
- Oversee high-risk activities and BESS-specific safety controls, including thermal runaway mitigation, fire systems and emergency response
- Verify work against IFC drawings, specifications, ITPs, hold points and OEM requirements
- Raise and track NCRs and drive corrective actions
- Manage interfaces between EPC, BESS OEM, BOP contractors, transmission operator, commissioning teams and third parties
- Support change control and escalate risks and commercial impacts
- Support pre-commissioning, commissioning, testing, SAT coordination, system integration and energisation readiness
- Drive punch-list closure and handover documentation, including as-builts, O&M manuals, training records and completion dossiers
- Maintain an audit-ready site and support landowner, community and planning-condition compliance
- Produce daily site diaries, weekly progress/QHSE reports, interface logs, risk-register inputs, constraints trackers, punch lists and handover dossiers
Requirements
What you’ll need- Proven site-based delivery experience on UK energy infrastructure with exposure to BESS and/or HV BOP works
- Strong understanding of construction sequencing across civils, electrical and controls/SCADA
- Knowledge of CDM 2015, RAMS, PTW and contractor management
- High-quality reporting and evidence-based completion sign-off mindset
- Confident communication skills, including challenging poor practice safely and professionally
- Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel
- Experience reviewing QMP and ITP documentation and raising NCRs
- Engineering or electrical qualification at apprenticeship, HNC, HND or degree level, or equivalent experience
- CSCS/ECS certification as applicable
- Direct BESS OEM package experience desirable
- SMSTS/SSSTS and IOSH/NEBOSH desirable
- Familiarity with transmission operator interface processes and grid compliance, including G99, desirable
- AP/SAP experience desirable
- Practical safety and risk-management approach
- Ability to influence, coach and engage teams across all levels
- Proactive, detail-oriented approach with strong follow-through
- Commitment to continuous improvement and an open, learning culture
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- First Aid at Work preferred
- Full-time availability at the Hartlepool site, with flexibility for extended hours during critical works, commissioning and energisation windows
