About the role
- The Seismology & Data Analytics Intern will support Fervo Energy’s data team by developing automated and machine learning (ML) tools for processing real-time streams of fiber optic data from geothermal operations, which generate thousands of tiny, imperceptible manmade earthquakes ("microseismicity"). Accurate high-speed detection and location of these events is crucial to understanding physical processes that impact the success of operations. Responsibilities include processing and labelling large microseismic datasets, subsequently training a neural network to detect microseismic events in new data; and investigating ML tools to automatically determine the magnitude or location of microseismic events.
Requirements
- Required Qualifications Pursuing a graduate degree in Geophysics, Computer Science or similar discipline (advanced undergraduate with proof of qualification also considered)
- Proficiency with a computing language such as Python, C++, Julia
- Ability to work independently
- Willingness and ability to collaborate in a remote working environment
- Must be legally entitled to work in the United States
- Preferred Qualifications Completed coursework related to seismology
- Experience working with Deep Learning tools such as PyTorch, Keras, Tensorflow
- Experience working with seismometer or fiber optic data
