Report directly to senior leadership and drive the execution of initiatives foundational to internal authentication, identity, and access control systems
Define the long-term vision for trust and identity infrastructure and translate it into tangible execution plans aligned with business goals
Design and implement scalable internal trust solutions such as secrets management, PKI, and authentication services
Tackle ambiguous, technically demanding initiatives with multiple stakeholders and organization-wide impact
Partner deeply with Product, Security, Compliance, and other Engineering teams for cross-functional leadership
Proactively identify potential situations that could negatively affect the business or customers and develop strategies to mitigate these risks
Establish and evangelize technical standards, code quality, reliability, and operational maturity
Mentor and support the professional growth of engineers, fostering a culture of respect, knowledge sharing, innovation, and collaboration
Be an active implementer, team member, and participate in on-call rotation with availability during core business hours and occasional nights/weekends as required
Requirements
Proven, hands-on experience building complex, resilient, and scalable infrastructure (Most Senior Principal Engineers at Fastly have at least 12 years of domain relevant engineering experience)
5+ years experience in a technical leadership capacity as an individual contributor
Recent experience developing complex applications in Go and other languages, with an aptitude for learning new languages and technologies
Proven success leading cross-team initiatives in areas such as internal authentication, identity federation, secrets management, or trust systems
Strong systems engineering background with deep experience in Linux, networking, and distributed systems
Demonstrated expertise in modern programming languages (e.g., Go, Python) and infrastructure tooling (e.g., Terraform, Vault, Consul, Chef)
Experience navigating security and compliance requirements in highly regulated environments (e.g., FedRAMP, SOC2, ISO 27001)
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly articulate complex technical concepts and produce clear documentation
A collaborative mindset with experience working across cross-functional teams and influencing technical decisions at the org level
Proven ability to mentor and support the growth of engineers
We’ll be super impressed if you have experience implementing zero-trust architectures, designing scalable secrets lifecycle management workflows, working with PKI and certificate automation at scale, contributing to open source identity or security tooling, or leading post-incident analysis and operationalizing learnings into system improvements
