About the role

  • Act as the resident Fastly architect for assigned customers; represent and champion the customer’s needs within Fastly.
  • Develop technical relationships with customers to build deep understanding of their team, infrastructure, plans, and problems.
  • Post-sales implementation of Fastly products (logging endpoints, image optimization, VCL coding) and document customer configurations for troubleshooting and engagement.
  • Investigate and recommend improvements to customers' implementation and utilization of Fastly’s technology stack.
  • Identify opportunities to introduce new Fastly products that complement customer needs.
  • Partner internally to create customer strategies and assist with support requests or problems for assigned customers.
  • Participate in regularly scheduled customer meetings on-site and via video/phone, including cadence calls and Quarterly Business Reviews.
  • Track and report on the health of customer accounts, providing regular updates to Client Services leadership.

Requirements

  • At least 8+ years of experience in Pre-Sales or Post-Sales roles within Sales Engineering, Technical Support, Technical Account Management, or Professional Services, ideally with a background in CDNs, Cloud, and/or Application Security products.
  • Success as a relationship builder and collaborator with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Empathy and understanding of the customer.
  • Experience with some or all of the following foundational technologies: SaaS/Cloud or hybrid cloud deployments; Apache/NGINX/IIS or other web server platforms, and associated Application server technologies and frameworks.
  • Understanding of HTTP/s, TCP, TLS, DNS, HLS, DASH, Load Balancing, Apache, NGINX.
  • Understanding of networking, including BGP, internet routing, and the difference between transit and peering.
  • Hands-on experience with Linux and scripting languages/tools such as (Python, Sed, Awk, Perl, JSON, Ruby, GO, Node.js).
  • Understanding of HTTP and API security best practices.
  • This is a hands-on role; willingness to roll your sleeves, hop on the keyboard, and tackle customer issues and requests.
  • Capable and willing to travel for customer meetings as necessary.
  • Must be fluent in Japanese and English.
  • Occasional requirement for a flexible schedule based on customer needs.
  • Nice-to-have: Proficiency in one or more programming languages.
  • Nice-to-have: Superior organizational and project management skills.
  • Nice-to-have: Kubernetes knowledge.
  • Nice-to-have: Knowledge of different Systems Config Management tools.
