About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Perform legal and secretarial tasks for assigned attorneys under leader supervision and oversight
  • Maintain schedules and calendars for assigned attorneys
  • Compose correspondence, pleadings, and various legal forms
  • Coordinate time and location of multi-party appearances, including depositions, arbitrations, mediations, Independent Medical Exams, meetings, and site inspections
  • Answer telephone calls and emails and handle client inquiries
  • Receive and process incoming mail
  • Contact clients, witnesses, court reporters, interpreters, claims personnel, and others to confirm scheduled appearances as instructed by assigned attorneys
  • Maintain thorough knowledge of and stay up-to-date with court rules and legal deadlines

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Michigan Civil Litigation experience
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • 1-3 years experience in civil litigation as a legal administration clerk, secretary, or legal assistant required
  • Thorough knowledge of and ability to keep up-to-date with court rules and legal deadlines
  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods, up to a full work shift
  • Ability to occasionally reach overhead and below the knees, including bending, twisting, pulling, and stooping
  • Ability to occasionally move, lift, carry, and place objects and supplies weighing 0-10 pounds without assistance
  • Ability to listen to, interpret, and differentiate auditory information at normal speaking levels, with or without correction
  • Ability to visually verify, read, and locate information and materials
  • Ability to continuously operate a computer for extended periods, up to a full work shift
  • Physical dexterity to repetitively operate a keyboard and other office equipment up to a full work shift
