About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Conduct virtual and on-site investigations at policyholders’ residences to assess property damage, determine liability, evaluate losses, and negotiate settlements
- Use claims handling software, a company car, and a laptop to determine claims-related damage and write estimates in a paperless environment
- Evaluate and report potential subrogation opportunities
- Report theft, fraud, or arson incidents to appropriate state and industry agencies
- Act independently, with work directly impacting management outcomes
- Represent the company professionally in public interactions
- Engage with policyholders, claimants, agents, witnesses, contractors, law enforcement, fraud and arson investigators, attorneys, medical professionals, and other stakeholders
- Negotiate with policyholders to settle claims
- Perform additional duties as assigned
- Promote safety and comply with company safety and ergonomic standards
- Commit to 1–3 catastrophe deployments per year; CAT-team assignments may require travel away from home for approximately 23 days
Requirements
What you’ll need- High School diploma or equivalent required
- Excellent customer service experience, preferably in a retail environment
- Construction or insurance experience highly desirable and preferred
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Computer literacy, including MS Word, Excel, and Outlook
- Proficiency with smartphones and applications
- Eagerness to learn insurance policies, property damage, and coverage application
- Outgoing personality and comfort interacting with policyholders, claimants, agents, witnesses, and fraud investigators
- Valid driver's license and bondable status
- Subject to a Motor Vehicle Record background check
- Willingness and ability to climb ladders and work on rooftops multiple times per day
- Ability to work in small, confined, damaged spaces such as attics and crawlspaces
- Ability to achieve a minimum passing score on all claims training exams
- Ability to bend, kneel, pull, push, sort, carry up to 50 lbs., climb, reach, stand, walk, see, speak English, read English, write English, and key-enter
- Ability to work in field and in-home office environments and tolerate listed environmental hazards
- Willingness to commit to 1–3 catastrophe deployments per year
