About the role
- Act as the primary owner of our cloud engineering function, driving standards, tooling, and best practices across the engineering organization.
- Design and implement scalable, secure, and cost-efficient infrastructure using AWS services and industry best practices.
- Build, evolve, and maintain our infrastructure-as-code foundation using Terraform, with an emphasis on reusable modules and service templates.
- Develop and maintain standardized service catalogs and infrastructure patterns to accelerate developer onboarding and reduce duplication.
- Develop patterns, improve, and support CI/CD pipelines to ensure fast, reliable, and compliant software delivery.
- Collaborate closely with application teams to design cloud-native architectures and guide them through implementation.
- Drive cross-team initiatives that improve reliability, security, observability, and automation across the platform.
- Lead technical planning, estimation, architectural reviews, and documentation for cloud initiatives.
- Identify cloud optimization opportunities (performance, scalability, cost) and implement strategies to address them.
- Conduct infrastructure reviews and provide mentorship to engineers to promote cloud fluency across the organization.
Requirements
- 7+ years of hands-on experience building and supporting production cloud infrastructure.
- Strong self-starter with a track record of independently identifying problems and delivering impactful solutions.
- Demonstrated technical leadership experience, including guiding architectural decisions, reviewing designs, and influencing engineering best practices.
- Deep proficiency with AWS (networking, IAM, ECS/EKS, Lambda, RDS, VPC design, ALBs/NLBs, S3, etc.).
- Strong expertise with Terraform, including module design, workspace strategies, and enterprise-scale patterns.
- Experience building or maintaining CI/CD pipelines, ideally with GitHub Actions.
- Experience standardizing infrastructure and building service / module catalogs or internal frameworks to drive reuse.
- Solid understanding of cloud security principles, observability ecosystems, and modern DevOps practices.
- Effective communicator able to collaborate across engineering, product, and leadership teams.
- Experience with Kubernetes (EKS preferably), container orchestration, or service mesh technologies.
- Nice to Have: Prior experience as the first or early infrastructure/cloud hire in a growing engineering org.
- AWS certifications (Solutions Architect, DevOps Engineer, SysOps Administrator).
- Experience with cost governance, FinOps practices, or multi-account AWS architectures.
