Key responsibilities & impact

Verify patient insurance eligibility, coverage, benefits, deductibles, copayments and coinsurance
Contact insurance companies via phone, online portals or electronic verification systems to obtain accurate coverage information
Confirm prior authorization and referral requirements for scheduled services and procedures
Update patient insurance information in electronic medical records (EMR)
Answer incoming calls from internal clinic offices in a professional manner
Identify and resolve discrepancies in insurance information before services are rendered
Maintain detailed documentation of verification activities and communications
Work closely with scheduling, billing, coding and clinical teams
Follow HIPPA guidelines and maintain patient confidentiality
Stay current on insurance policies, payer requirements and regulatory changes as provided by credentialing team
Other duties as assigned by the Revenue Cycle Operation Senior Manager.

Requirements

What you’ll need

High School Diploma or GED
Minimum of 1-3 years of related experience in insurance verification, medical billing, healthcare administration, or related field
Knowledge of commercial insurance, Medicare, Medicaid and Managed care plans
Familiarity with EMR/EHR systems and medical billing software
Strong attention to detail and organization skills
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Ability to multitask and manage deadlines in a fast-paced environment
Proficiency in Microsoft office suite, including excel and outlook.
