About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Perform design for building structure-related projects in substations and power plants
- Design Civil discipline projects for substations for Hydro-Québec, or for other clients in Canada and the United States
- Carry out tower (pylon) design projects for Hydro-Québec
- Conduct surveys and inspections in collaboration with other disciplines
- Participate in the preparation of drawings and specifications, and in quantity and cost estimates
- Contribute to structural assessments of reinforced concrete and steel structures
- Verify compliance of drawings, calculations and technical datasheets
- Monitor the quality of work and respond to site correspondence
- Oversee updating of as-built/final drawings
- Guide and supervise a small technical team (project engineers in training, technicians, drafters) on projects
- Track schedules and collaborate on budget control with the project manager
- Communicate with clients and external consultants to ensure effective coordination
- Participate in the preparation of proposals
- Perform any other tasks related to the position
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering (structural option) or equivalent
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in structural project design, including supervision of technical staff
- Member in good standing of the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec (OIQ)
- Experience in structural assessment of concrete dams (asset)
- Experience in tower/pylon design (asset)
- Experience on Hydro‑Québec projects (asset)
- Experience in strengthening existing structures (asset)
- Experience in steel connection design and detailing (asset)
- Good knowledge of the National Building Code of Canada
- Proficiency with CSA A23.3 (concrete) and CSA S16 (steel) standards
- Proficient with Office software, SAFI (or equivalents: ETABS, SAP, Advance Design)
- Knowledge of PLS‑TOWER software (asset)
- Knowledge of SAFE software (asset)
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously with rigor and autonomy
- Strong team spirit, organizational skills, curiosity and attention to detail
